Tim Stevens And I

This is a picture from an Engadget conference where I tried on Tim Stevens' Google Glass. As you can see, I am the master of faking keeping it cool.

New Video on YouTube!

Check out my newest video that talks about the issues I wrote about in the Soft Focus post!

New Video on YouTube!

This is my Christmas-timed video about how I would probably die if I didn't have 10000 spare batteries.

New Video To Address Light Panel Questions!

Hi, everyone!

I really hope none of you got more snow today like I did, and if you did, my condolences.

I uploaded a video today to address some of the questions I had gotten in the comments of my YouTube, and also to show you all some of the products that make the project a heck of a lot easier. One of those products is the cinefoil I mentioned in the video for covering the spaces in barn door lights.

As shown in this completely official looking image.

It can be found on Amazon here:

The other product that I mentioned from Amazon was gaffer tape. It's super handy for adhering the cinefoil and it is also just a really helpful thing to keep around your studio in case you notice gaps in your cinefoil, etc.

Also, another thing I wanted to discuss. Who uses Adobe Creative Cloud here? Anyone? Any students? Anyone who takes advantage of their small business functionality? What about their cloud storage? Let me know what you think in the comments either here or on YouTube. I'm currently having issues with CS6 (we got into a fight and it stormed out of my house) so I am reduced to editing photos and videos with the simplest software imaginable. The image above is probably the first time I used MS Paint since High School.

Goodnight, everyone! Time for me to go watch Frozen.

Soft Focus Issues on the Canon EOS 7D

I'm trying not to get misty-eyed while I'm writing this.
My 7D is the love of my life and it breaks my heart to acknowledge so publicly that is has such a terrible problem. Everyone, my baby cannot focus properly.

It all started the day I opened the camera and went outside to photograph some flowers in my yard. They were beautiful, save for the fact that they were not completely in focus. Perhaps to the untrained eye they would be wonderful, but to myself and others it was a red flag. I dismissed it, because my own vision is far from perfect. A friend familiar with photography looked at the photos and agreed that they were not as clear as you would think, for a camera so nice. It saddens me deeply to realize that my 7D never could focus properly.

I have tried almost everything that both myself and other people have suggested, which was everything from cleaning everything from top to bottom (the camera and the lens I was using to test are both immaculate, and I verified with another body that the lens was not the issue), to micro adjusting the focus for every lens I own. I am in the process of doing that now with a calibration tool. I have even done the basic removal of both of the batteries and leaving them out for ten minutes, before putting them back in to have it confirmed that the issue has persisted.

I cannot continue to work while it is like this. On principle I will not take out of focus shots and fix them in photoshop. The results do not satisfy me, and I will not make someone pay for something I'm not proud of.

Do any of you have these issues? Am I alone in being so sad about it?

I admit that such sadness makes me feel isolated, despite the fact that I have read people having 2 or 3 7D bodies that all had the same problem. From what I've read, Canon has yet to acknowledge the issue and has told several people that there is nothing wrong with their camera.

I will try to reach out to Canon to find a solution. Hopefully they won't tell me there is nothing wrong, and hopefully this micro adjustment does the trick. I may otherwise burst into tears. Here's to hoping that it doesn't come down to that.

Hope you are all well, and may your equipment work perfectly forever.

Much love, -Pat

Introduction: Who am I? What do I do? What is my favorite pokemon?

Hi, everyone.

Odds are, you're here because you watch my youtube channel. That already means you've demonstrated excellent judgement at least one time, ever.

My job includes everything from portrait photography (headshots basically) to writing, to even occasionally becoming McGuiver and crafting equipment. If you have not already, feel free to check out the link below as it's a pretty prime example of what I mean here.

My channel trailer might come in handy here, as it will do most of this work for me. I really do love my camera to death (my Canon 7D), like I say in the video.

I take as many recommendations from my viewers as I possibly can, so if there is anything that you would like me to talk about feel free to contact me however you want. I am almost constantly on the computer so unless I am deathly ill I will see what you've said.

Happy new year, also. I forgot that happened.

-Pat

EDIT: Oh my goodness, I totally forgot. My favorite pokemon is lotad. Bye again!
